A host is an organism that harbors a parasitic, a mutualistic, or a commensalist guest, the guest typically being provided with nourishment and shelter. A parasite is an organism that obtains nourishment and shelter on another organism. The main difference between host and parasite is that the host is the cell or the organism that harbors another organism or a biological entity whereas the parasite is the organism that lives at the expenses of the host.
